MUAR: Residents from Kundang Hulu in Gersek, a quaint town about 100km from here, received free vegetables and eggs recently.

Officials from the Pagoh parliament office gave out the essentials using a drive or walk-through method, making it convenient and easy for residents to collect the items.

The residents just had to stop by the road side to receive their packed bags of long beans, winged beans, bitter gourd and eggs.

"Fresh food such as these vegetables that we handed out, are all basic and neccessities that run out as daily food", said

Atiman Kadar, who is the Pagoh parliament office secretary said they decided to use this method to hand out the essentials as it was easier and did not cause unnecessary crowding.

"We wanted to ensure we follow the standard operating procedures and also did not want to inconvenience anyone," he said.

Srikandi Pagoh chief, Janariah Abu Nawan said though many states were entering Phases 3 and 4 of recovery, there were still those who were facing difficulties.

"We learned that many were still in dire need of daily essentials and decided to reach out to those in need by organising this programme," she said.

She said they sought the help of volunteers to pack the vegetables and eggs to make it easier for the residents to pick up.

"We really appreciate the dedication and commitment shown by our volunteers who gave up their weekend to help us.

"We will continue to reach out to those in need and ensure everyone has food on their tables at all times," she added.
