CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Some 11,000 out of 17,000 farmers here have received their first inoculation or both Covid-19 vaccine doses so far, under the Agrofood Industry Vaccination Programme (AiVAC).
AiVAC vaccine distributions (PPV) have being set up at at Kampung Raja Multipurpose Hall, Lembah Bertam Multipurpose Hall, JKKK Tringkap Multipurpose Hall and Rest and Recreation Area (R&R) in Lojing, Kelantan.
Agriculture and Food Industries Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee said Cameron Highlands is the largest crop production area with a total planted area of 15,106.53 hectares and with a production value of 325,036.16 metric tons per year.
"A total of 17,000 vaccine supplies have been allocated to agro-food industry workers starting Aug 27 in Cameron Highland here and Lojing," he told reporters after visiting at AiVAC PPV at Kampung Raja Multipurpose Hall here today.
Ronald said the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) was implemented two months ago at several agriculture areas here, causing farmers crop production chain involving local and export markets to be interrupted.
"Following this, the ministry has come out with the idea of having AiVAC and this programme is jointly organised by agro-food industry players," he said.
He said AiVAC aims to increase vaccination among workers and individuals involved in the agrofood sector as well as help the government achieve herd immunity to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
Ronald added that AiVAC for fishermen would kicked off tomorrow in Hutan Melintang, Perak.
