SERDANG: A report on the rebranding of the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) will be ready Tuesday.

Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Salahuddin Ayub said he will be attending a briefing on the matter by a special committee formed by the ministry and led by its secretary-general Datuk Mohd Sallehhuddin Hassan.

Salahuddin was speaking at a press conference at the Agri Tech & Engineering Innovation (ATEI) 2018 here, today.

“I think before the end of the year we can at least come up with a new business model that is able to contribute up to 30 per cent of the local meat supply, which is our target,” he said.

The NFC was an initiative by the previous government meant to boost the nation’s beef self-sufficiency level.

However, the project was embroiled in controversy when its executive chairman Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail, husband of Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, was investigated and charged with misappropriating a total of RM49.7 million from the NFC.

He was acquitted of the charges in 2015.
