SANDAKAN: Two estate workers were killed in an accident involving three vehicles near Kampung Jaya Bakti at Jalan Sandakan-Beluran here.

In the 4pm incident, victims identified as Abdurazim Asad Kassin, 17, and Abdurasid Asad Kassin, 25, died on the spot.

District police chief Assistant Comnissioner Mohd Azhar Hamin said the duo was on a motorcycle, adding Abdurazim was the pillion rider.

"Based on preliminary investigation, the duo and another motorcyclist were heading towards Beluran from Bukit Garam.

"Both motocycles were said to have overtaken three vehicles before grazing each other," he said.

Mohd Azhar said the impact had caused Abdurasid’s motorcycle to be thrown into the opposite lane, crashing into an oncoming jeep.

He noted the other motorcycle landed on the side of the road and the rider sustained minor injury.

"The impact of the collision seriously injured Abdurazim and Abdurasid. Both succumbed to their injuries," he said.

Mohd Azhar said police were unsure if both deceased were related, adding that Abdurasid held a Philippine passport while Abdurazim was not carrying any documentation.

He said the accident was caused by negligence, adding the accident is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by careless driving.
