KOTA BARU: A 28-year-old man is feared to have drowned after falling out of his boat while fishing off Pantai Mek Mas, near Kedai Buloh, here today.
Kota Baru fire station operations chief Mazlan Muhamad said the Fire and Rescue Department received a report regarding the incident about 7.15pm.
"Seven firemen were sent to the scene after receiving the call. We immediately mounted a search and rescue (SAR) operation to locate the man," he said.
It is believed that the man had gone fishing around 2pm.
He was believed to have fallen into the sea after a strong wave hit his boat.
The rescue team discovered his boat together with his fishing equipment about 15 nautical miles off the beach.
