KOTA KINABALU: Umno Youth Chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has concluded giving his statement at the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters (IPD) after a session lasting over two hours.

He was summoned in relation to a police report filed against him under the Sedition Act concerning a lecture video in Kelantan.

Speaking to the media at the Kota Kinabalu IPD compound, Dr Akmal said that he was scheduled to attend a programme in Beaufort, Sabah, later today.

"However, as soon as I arrived, I received a call stating that I needed to give a statement today."

"I asked if it could wait, but I was told that the statement needed to be taken as soon as possible.

Expressing his cooperation with the authorities, Dr Akmal said: "As soon as I left Immigration inspection, I was immediately taken and brought to IPD. Alhamdulillah, the statement was also taken."

Regarding the content of the video under investigation, he said he believed there were no seditious elements in it and entrusted the police to conduct their investigation.

"We are ready to fight in court because I am not afraid," he said, emphasising the veracity of his statements.

Earlier, Dr Akmal had arrived at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) at around 10.30am.

His visit to Sabah was originally planned for the afternoon programme in Beaufort, but upon arrival, he was promptly taken to the Kota Kinabalu IPD to provide his statement.
