BATU PAHAT: The shouts of 'murderer, murderer' were heard as Mohammad Haikal Mahfuz, the boyfriend of Bella, was escorted out of the Magistrate Court here after being charged with the murder of the young woman.

Clad in a green 'baju Melayu', Haikal was heavily guarded by policemen before being escorted into a police vehicle.

Bella's elder sister, Norhisham Samsusah, 36, struggled to contain her emotions as she exited the court following the proceedings.

Meanwhile, Bella's uncle, Nor Azhar Jamil, 55, said the family wants justice to prevail.

He said this was to ensure that Bella, or Mila Sharmilah Samsusah, would get the justice she deserved.

"We would like to express our gratitude to all Malaysians who continuously prayed for an investigation into Bella's case after her disappearance.

"Thirty-six days later, her remains were found in an incomplete state, and today (day 41), the individual suspected of Bella's disappearance is finally brought before the court.

"Bella's body will be claimed at HSI (Hospital Sultan Ismail) Johor Baru and brought back here for prayers before being laid to rest at the Banang Jaya Muslim Cemetery," he added.

Earlier, Haikal was charged in the Magistrate Court for the murder of the young woman.

Bella's remains were discovered in an abandoned house in Kampung Batu 7, Tongkang Pechah, last Friday.

Following the discovery, the police collected samples from Bella's brother and mother for deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) testing.

The test conducted at HSI confirmed that the remains belonged to Bella.
