TEMERLOH: Four motorcyclists including a 15-year-old juvenile were charged in the Sessions Court today for allegedly riding motorcycles recklessly and dangerously on the East Coast Highway (LPT-1) last Sunday.

The trio consists of higher education students: Ammar Muizzuddin Abdul Aziz, 19; Wan Muhammad Syahmi Wan Zulkififli, 20; and Mohamad Haiqal Mohd Hanafi, 22.

The fourth accused is a 15-year-old student from a local secondary school near here.

Upon the reading of charges, all defendants entered pleas of not guilty before Judge Ahmad Rizki Abdul Jalil.

According to the charge details, the accused are charged with riding motorcycles in a manner that is reckless and dangerous to other road users.

The alleged incident took place around 6.30 pm on Dec 24 at Kilometre 127 of LPT1 eastbound, here.

The charges were filed under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, carrying a potential penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to RM15,000 upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Khairunnisa Zaffar led the prosecution, with legal representation for all accused provided by Khairul Anuar Abu Hasan Ashaari.

The court set bail at RM3,000 for each of the three higher education students and RM1,500 for the juvenile offender. The next hearing is scheduled for Feb 6 next year.

Earlier reports indicated that police were tracking a group of motorcyclists seen competing in a viral video while performing the 'Superman' stunt.

One rider suddenly lost control of his machine, leading others to fall behind him at high speed while trying to avoid crashing into their fellow riders.

Subsequently, the Temerloh police detained them on Dec 28 from their respective homes in Temerloh and Maran after tracking down their motorcycle registration numbers.
