TEMERLOH: Three university students and a secondary school student have been detained following a viral video of a group of motorcyclists doing a "superman" stunt, which led to an accident along the East Coast Expressway 1 (ECE1) on Dec 24.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mazlan Hassan said the suspects aged between 15 and 22 years old were picked up from their respective homes in Temerloh and Maran after policemen tracked down their motorcycle registration numbers.

"A 28-second viral video of the accident at the Ahmad Shah bridge near the Temerloh Rest and Service Area along ECE1 had gone viral at about 4.40pm on Dec 26. The incident occurred on Dec 24.

"The video on social media showed a group of motorcyclists riding recklessly before several of them were involved in an accident which posed a danger to other road users.

"Policemen from the Temerloh Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department managed to track down the motorcycle owners and their home address before picking up the four suspects.

Their motorcycles have been seized," he said in a statement today.

Mazlan said the suspects were investigated under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He said investigations revealed the four youths were involved in the crash as they had sustained cuts on their hands, legs and other parts of the body.

"The four Yamaha Y15ZR machines seized from the youths were also damaged, believed to be the result of the accident," he said.

Earlier, it was reported that police were tracking down a group of motorcyclists, who were seen competing with each other in a viral video clip while performing the 'superman' stunt.

One of them suddenly lost control of his vehicle and fell on the road before others who were trailing closely behind at high speed fell too, while attempting to avoid crashing into the other riders and their motorcycles on the road.
