KOTA KINABALU: A man claimed trial to five charges of possessing fake notes and tools for forging money, and using fake notes to buy food and refueling at a gas station.

Ridhwan Aiman Yahya, 30, pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz.

The charge stated that the fake money was Malaysian currency of RM100 notes with two different serial numbers.

On the first count, Ridhwan was charged with having three pieces of RM100 fake notes at a house at Taman Kuala Menggatal at 9.15am on Oct 13.

He was charged under Section 489C which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, upon conviction.

On the second count, Ridhwan was accused of possessing instruments or materials for forging money at the same place and time.

The alleged offence was under Section 489D of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine, upon conviction.

On the third to the fifth counts, Ridhwan had allegedly used the fake notes to buy food and refuel gas.

The offences took place at a grocery shop in Taman Putera Jaya; a restaurant in Pekan Telipok, and a gas station at Kg Air, here, on Oct 10, 12 and Sept 13 respectively.

The three charges were under Section 489B which is punishable by a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine, upon conviction.

The court fixed Nov 18, 22 and 25, for case management.

In the meantime, the unrepresented accused will be further detained under Section 259 of the Criminal Procedure Code, pending disposal of the cases.

Meanwhile, at Magistrate's Court, a civil servant was fined RM2,000, in default, two months' jail for injuring a nurse.

Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie imposed the sentence on Alister Leonard Alai, 27, after he changed his plea today.

The accused, who was represented by counsel Bartholomew Jingulam, admitted to causing hurt to the victim aged 32 at 5.30pm on Jan 21, at a house in Beverly Hills phase 5, Penampang.

The charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine or both, upon conviction.
