KUALA LUMPUR: Two foreigners with fake Malaysian identity cards were nabbed during an enforcement operation around Alam Damai yesterday.

The National Registration Department (NRD) enforcement division said the raid was conducted following two weeks of surveillance and monitoring.

"The first individual is from Indonesia, aged 23, while the other is from The Philippines, aged 21.

"They obtained the identity cards by borrowing them from acquaintances, using them as their own identity to secure jobs without making any payments," it said.

It added that the initial investigations found that both suspects had been using the identity cards in question between two and six years ago.

"Both individuals will be brought before the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court and can be charged under Regulation 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990.

"If found guilty, they can be sentenced to imprisonment for up to three years or fine not exceeding RM30,000, or both," it said.
