BALIK PULAU: A disabled teenager, who was released from a rehabilitation centre a month ago, was detained again over burglary yesterday.
The 18-year-old had broken into a fisherman’s house in Teluk Bahang, here, at 6am yesterday and escaped with RM9,000 worth of jewellery. He was detained at about 5.30pm.
Southwest district police chief Superintendent A.A. Anbalagan said a 68-year-old fishermen had left his home at about 6am to fish. When he returned, he saw his front door was open.
“He checked his house and found that the jewellery and RM500 in the cupboard were missing,” Anbalagan said today, adding that during interrogation the teen had admitted to breaking into the house and stealing the items.
Police also confiscated a mobile phone, believed to have been stolen on another occasion.
The teenager had two criminal convictions and was released from a rehabilitation centre in Paya Terbubong last month.
The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code and the teenager has been detained for four days to assist with investigations.
