KANGAR: Police arrested a drug addict after he allegedly broke into a church half-naked yesterday.

Kangar police chief Assistant Commissioner Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the 31-year-old suspect with burglary and drug abuse records was arrested in Jalan Bahagia about 11.30am today after the church management lodged a report.

"We have seized a portable table, a wall fan, a singlet and a pair of shorts.

"Background checks on the suspect revealed that he has three previous records involving drug abuse and theft.

"The suspect has also been tested positive for methamphetamine," he said in a statement.

Yusharifuddin said police would apply for a remand against the suspect tomorrow.

He added that police are also investigating the suspect for possible involvement in other criminal cases reported in the district.

Today, a social media user uploaded a posting on the burglary at a church located near a secondary school in Kangar.

According to the posting, the burglar had forced his way into the church while being half-naked.

It was learnt that based on security camera footage, the suspect was seen carting away four units of wall fans, two projectors, a vacuum, a portable speaker and some cash from the donation box.
