KUALA LUMPUR: A businesswoman lost about RM3.5 million in cash and valuable in a burglary at her home in Padang Balang, here, yesterday.

Wangsa Maju police chief Superintendent Ashari Abu Samah said police received a report from the woman at 10pm.

"Based on investigations, it was found that a safe containing RM3 million in gold bars and cash was taken away by the burglars.

"They also ran off with several luxury handbags and other valuables belonging to the woman and her family. The total losses reported were estimated at RM3.5 million," he said in a statement.

Ashari said the burglars had first disabled the closed-circuit television camera system at the home of the victim during the break-in.

"We are investigating the case under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house-breaking at night. Anyone with information on the case should contact the Wangsa Maju police headquarters at 03-92899222.
