SHAH ALAM: A 24-year old welder was sent to the gallows for murdering a 25-year old pregnant woman three years ago.

R. Lingeswaran was charged at the Shah Alam High Court with murdering E. Vally, 25, who was five months pregnant, at Juara Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd along Jalan Rawang-Batu Arang about 10.40pm on July 4, 2012.

Judge Datuk Wan Afrah Wan Ibrahim in reading out the sentence said the prosecution had established solid evidence that the accused meant to hurt the victim.

“The defence has also failed to raise reasonable doubt against the prosecution’s case and the accused is sentenced to hang,” she said.

Lingeswaran was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the mandatory death penalty.

Post mortem results revealed that E. Vally died of ligature strangulation and multiple blunt force trauma.

The accused was represented by N. Logen while deputy public prosecutor Wong Poi Yoke prosecuted.
