SHAH ALAM: A prison detainee who escaped from police custody in Kampung Paya Jaras in Sungai Buloh, on Monday night was captured at 1am at Lorong Anggerik, Kampung Seri Gombak Indah, Batu Caves.

The 34-year old detainee was captured in an overnight operation carried out by 21 policemen from the Klang Utara police station, which ended at 6am.

Also captured in a separate location in Kampung Paya Jaras were his two accomplices who had helped the detainee hide from the authorities.

Police also seized two motorcycles and five handphones in the operation.

The detainee who was remanded for investigations involving 29 robbery and snatch theft cases, had escaped when he was brought in a van by the investigating team to inspect a house in order to track his accomplice.

The 9.35pm incident on Dec 7 took place after the investigating team, which includes several rank and file personnel as well as an officer, stepped out of the vehicle to hunt for another suspect.

Left with only one police personnel to watch him, the detainee fought his way out with his hands still handcuffed and dressed in prison’s attire.

Following his escape, a search party which included K9, the anti-vice, gaming and gangsterism as well as serious crimes unit combed the nearby areas, including jungles and the Paya Jaras village for the detainee.

According to sources, the suspects will be remanded at the Klang Court at noon today.
