SHAH ALAM: The arrest of a Universiti Selangor (Unisel) student in relation to uploading provocative posters on social media against the court is to aid the police in its investigation.
Unisel's corporate communications head Hasril Abu Hassan confirmed the arrest of the student and said that the university hope for the student to be released soon if he is not found guilty of any offence.
"We were informed of a Unisel and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) students arrests in relation to their social media posts attacking the court system and that the arrest was made to aid the police with their investigation.
"The university respect the action taken by the police and will not comment anything that might jeapordize the investigation nor issue any statement that might contradict the police.
"We will pray for the student's well-being and hope that they are not found guilty and will not face any charges," he said.
Inspector-general of Police Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Abu Bakar earlier tweeted "@PDRMsia yesterday arrested two students, (from) Unisel and USM, for having uploaded these (posters). They will be held under remand".
The students had posted a poster calling for people to ignite fireworks at all courts nationwide scheduled at 11:40pm tonight as a sign of protest against the Federal court's ruling on opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's sodomy II case.
It is believed that the students are remanded in Putrajaya for four days.
