KUALA LUMPUR : The Malaysian Meteorological Department today issued a warning of strong winds and rough seas for Sabah following the detection of Typhoon Rammasun 1,125 kilometres northeast of Sandakan, Sabah, at 8 am.

It said in a statement that the typhoon was detected at 12.7 degrees North Latitude and 125.6 degrees East Longitude and was moving westwards at a speed of 25km per hour.

The statement warned that the southwesterly winds of 40 to 50 km per hour and waves as high as 3.5 metres in the waters off Sabah’s Kudat and West Coast were expected to prevail until tomorrow.

Strong southwesterly winds in Sulu, Palawan and Reef North were expected to prevail up to Friday, and in Phuket, up to Monday, it said.

These conditions were dangerous for small boats, recreation and sea sports, it added. – BERNAMA
