SHAH ALAM: Muslims in Selangor who participated in Friday prayers at the mosque today also performed the solat sunat ghaib for Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat.

Selangor State Religious Department (JAIS) director Datuk Harris Kassim confirmed that the department issued a recommendation for all 412 mosques in the state to organise the prayer in remembrance of the late Pas's spiritual adviser.

However, he said the prayer was optional and is up to the people to perform it or not, even though it is highly recommended.

"I went to the state mosque to pray today and the solat sunat ghaib was performed.

"It is a sunat (optional) prayer that is recommended and it is done with the good intention to remember the contribution of Nik Aziz as well as for those who performed it to receive their pahala (rewards) and blessings from God.

"Since many people would want to go for Nik Aziz's funeral but couldn't, they can still pay tribute to him through prayers," he said.

Solat sunat ghaib is a funeral prayer when the deceased is not absent and is recommended in the Syafie madzhab.
