KUANTAN: Heavy rain that lasted several hours on Saturday night triggered flash floods, affecting several roads in many parts of the state capital here.

Motorist were forced to find alternative routes after some stretches were under one meter of water making it impassable to light vehicles.

One of the worst hit areas was the traffic light junction in front of University College Shahputra in Indera Mahkota, which was also closed to all vehicles after floods hit the area in December last year.

Motorist Hafidz Zainizam, 24, said he was forced to make a U-turn as the nearby monsoon drain several meters from the college was overflowing and flooding the stretch.

He said policemen were stationed in the area to help control traffic and guide motorist to use other alternative roads.
