KUALA LUMPUR: Heavy rain and thunderstorms, coupled with strong winds, are expected to hit districts in five states, including Sabah and Sarawak, until 6pm today.

The Malaysian Meteorology Department (MetMalaysia) in a statement, said that in Terengganu, the affected districts are Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Kuala Terengganu, Marang, Dungun and Kemaman.

Cameron Highlands and Lipis are the affected areas in Pahang.

Hulu Selangor will be the sole district affected by the inclement weather in Selangor.

Over in Johor, heavy rain is expected to lash Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi.

In Sarawak, the affected areas are Miri (Beluru and Telang Usan) and Limbang.

"In Sabah, areas such as Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort, Tuaran, Kota Belud and Tawau will be affected by poor weather," said the department.

MetMalaysia said such notices are issued when there is a forecast of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour or more.

"Thunderstorm warnings are issued for periods not exceeding six hours," it said.

The department advised the public to refer to www.met.gov.my and the official MetMalaysia social media page, as well as download the myCuaca app for the latest verified updates.
