KUALA LUMPUR: TGV Cinemas and Omnicom Media Group launched A Delicious Charity Campaign at Indulge, TGV Cinemas 1Utama Shopping Centre to raise funds for Pertiwi Soup Kitchen and Fungates Superflow Foundation.

“Five per cent of the sale of each dish-of-the-month will be channelled to the charities.

“The price ranges from RM9 to RM36,” said TGV Cinemas chief executive officer Gerald V. Dibbayawan.

“We hope to make a difference and give somthing back to society,” said Dibbayawan.

Inspired by the OMG Can Cook recipe book, 12 dishes and appetisers have been selected and will be featured in Indulge, TGV Cinemas over a period of one year.

The campaign will kick off this month with Baked Beans Macaroni Hot Pot, followed by Braised Lamb Shoulder next month and Tomato-OJ Bruschetta in January.

In February, it will be Mango Tango; Thai Mango Salad (March); Pan-Seared Salmon With Fresh Greens (April), Ha Ha Prawns (May), Delish Mango Layered Yogurt (June), White Fungus Ginko Nuts (July), Fragrant Pad Grapow Seafood Spaghetti (August), Botak Fried Wanton (September) and Sauteed Fish With Ginger Scallions (October).

Omnicom Media Group chief executive officer Andreas Vogiatzakis said OMG Can Cook would benefit the less fortunate.

“To date, we have sold more than 4,000 copies and have won the Best Cook Book for Charity in Malaysia award by Gourmand.

“With the support of TGV Cinemas, OMG Can Cook is ready to spread its wings, to create awareness of food wastage and raise funds.”

Vogiatzakis said the idea behind the book was about raising awareness of food wastage.

“Eight million kilogrammes of food in Malaysia go to waste every day. That’s enough to feed 7.5 million people,” he said.

The Pertiwi Soup Kitchen serves food four nights a week in inner-city neighbourhoods such as Chow Kit, Kota Raya and Masjid India. It is an average of 500 to 700 homeless people per night, while Fungates Superflow Foundation is dedicated to serve the community’s social welfare and health needs.

OMG Can Cook, priced at RM10 per copy, has been on sale for more than a year, with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to charity.

Present at the launch were Pertiwi Soup Kitchen chairman and founder Munirah Abdul Hamid and Fun Gates Superflow Foundation managing trustee Penny Khor.
