KUALA LUMPUR: Actress and singer Elizabeth Tan admitted that she had a miscarriage last February.

The 30-year-old artiste, affectionately known as Lizzy, said that she had a miscarriage when she was between six and seven weeks pregnant.

"I experienced bleeding and saw the doctor. Then I was told that I had miscarried. The doctor helped to clean me up and followed up with the next procedure.

"I thought I was quite okay about the situation. However, recently, I feel that the incident is not something I can forget.

"I don't know how long I will have to wait to have another child," she said when met at the premiere of the action thriller film, Sheriff, at GSC Midvalley here, last night.

Tan, whose full name is Elizabeth Tan Su Mei, married Ding Siew Jim on March 21, 2021.

The actress did not deny that the miscarriage had an impact on her since the couple had been trying to conceive since five months ago.

"I already announced (confirmation of pregnancy) to my family and close friends, however, I've miscarried. This is sad but I am not giving up hope.

Meanwhile, Tan said it was challenging to bring her role as a police officer and mother to life in the new film, Sheriff, directed by Syafiq Yusof.

"I'm not a mother yet. So, playing a character like that is not easy. I thank Syafiq for the opportunity to do so.

"I don't know why he chose me to be in a film of his for the third time. Compared to the other big names in this film, I am very small," she said.

Besides Tan, the film also features Zul Ariffin, Syafiq Kyle, Datuk Aaron Aziz, Azira Shafinaz, Sharuddin Tamby, Amir Nafis, Kodi Rasheed, Hazama and Azri Iskandar.

Produced by Skop Productions and Astro Shaw, the film will begin screening in Malaysian and Singapore cinemas tomorrow.
