KUALA LUMPUR: Syafiq Yusof's crime thriller Sheriff has taken home RM16.3 million at the box office after four days' screening.

Syafiq's father, Skop Productions' chairman and the film's executive producer, Datuk Yusof Haslam, said in a statement yesterday that the response from Malaysians had been "astounding".

"It is still too early to gauge public support but for the first four days of screening the response from moviegoers has been very encouraging," he said.

"Thank you Malaysians for your support. I hope more will continue to flock to cinemas to watch this compelling drama."

Jointly produced by Skop Productions and Astro Shaw, Sheriff tells the story of Sheriffuddin Hussein alias Sheriff, a tough police officer from the Integrity Department whose duty it is to combat corruption in the police force.

He meets a young and idealistic police officer Nazri who works in the Narcotics Department and is investigating a series of brutal murders committed by a mysterious man known as the Meth Killer.

Nazri and Sheriff work together to uncover the killer as well as confront the ruthless drug kingpin Tony.

In their mission to bring Tony and the killer to justice, Sheriff and Nazri are aided by no-nonsense female police officers Sha and Jane.

Sheriff stars Zul Ariffin, Syafiq Kyle, Datuk Aaron Aziz, Azira Shafinaz, Elizabeth Tan, Shaharuddin Thamby, Kodi Rasheed and Hazama Azmi.
