KUALA LUMPUR: Rock queen Ella is still missing her mother Yang Asmah Long, who died at the age of 92 on March 11.

Ella or Norzila Aminuddin, 55, who dreams of Yang Asmah from time to time, has described the day she died as the "saddest day of her life".

"Losing my mother was like losing a large part of me. No words can describe how I felt that day, eight months ago," said Ella in an interview with Berita Harian today.

"Life will never be the same again without my mother. She left at a most unfortunate time, in the midst of the raging Covid-19 pandemic."

Ella added that she was coping with the loss of her mother by "holding on" to her telekung (prayer shawl).

"My mother left lots of things for her children, and the one item that I cherish most is her beloved telekung. I have decided to keep it, since it is my fondest memory of her," said Ella.

Ella frequently visits her mother's grave in the Section 21 Islamic Cemetery, Shah Alam. She is also happy to return to work, since it takes her mind away from the grief of losing her mother.

Ella is set to perform at Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian 34 (ABPBH 34) at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTC KL) on Saturday.

She will be performing a duet with her singer-actress niece Kaka Azraff, and it is their first on-stage collaboration.
