KUALA LUMPUR: Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian (ABPBH) 35, which saw comedian Bell Ngasri win the top prize, was the most popular topic amongst Malaysians on Google last year.
Google Trends revealed today that ABPBH 35, which was held at Istana Budaya on July 21, was the top searched Google topic for Malaysians.
The topic has remained popular this month because of Bell's massive popularity playing the zany villager Barkoba in the late filmmaker Mamat Khalid's Kampung Pisang comedy dramas such as 16 Puasa, 17 Puasa and 18 Puasa.
ABPBH 35 has also remained popular because of Popular Radio Announcer winner Tyzo's recent termination of contract by radio station Suria FM.
TV3 which broadcast the awards live recorded 5.6 million in viewership while tonton which live-streamed the event recorded 2.9 billion views over a week beginning July 17.
This included 439,634 views during the red carpet event half an hour prior to the main event.
In a statement today, TV3 said that all data pertaining to the annual awards show was obtained from Nielsen, Meltwater and tonton.
Bell won two awards namely Most Popular Artiste and Popular Comedian.
He earned a trophy, Fellera Skin X cosmetics and a Fellera Skin umrah package.
The other winners were Popular New Male Artiste Amir Ahnaf, Popular New Female Artiste Anna Jobling, Popular Male Singer Khai Bahar, Popular Female Singer Aina Abdul, Popular Group Dolla, Popular Film Actor Beto Kusyairy, Popular Film Actress Sophia Albarakbah, Popular TV Actor Meerqeen, Popular TV Actress Anna Jobling and Popular TV Host Elly Mazlein.
The Ekstra! Category winners were Popular Drama Couple Meerqeen and Anna Jobling, Popular Film Couple Datuk Aaron Aziz and Nadiya Nisaa; Popular Drama Melur Untuk Firdaus and Popular Soundtrack Terus Hidup by Aina Abdul.
The Popular Content Creator was Alieff Irfan, Popular TikToker Sally Whoo and Popular Viral Comedians Syahmi Sazli, Asif and Yoe Parey.
Hollywood superstar Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh won the Ekspresi Legasi Seni award for lifetime contributions to entertainment industry.
United States-based singer and songwriter Yuna won the Eksplorasi Seni award for promoting Malaysian music internationally.
ABPBH 35 was co-hosted by Johan and Ain Edruce.
