KUALA LUMPUR: Careful to not touch on sensitive religious issues in his new film Penunggang Agama 2, director Syafiq Yusof had consulted clergymen before he even begun the project.

The filmmaker said he had sought advised from both an ustaz and a Christian priest to avoid creating unnecessary controversies for the film which featured the clash of two characters of both faiths.

"While my brother had done an Islamic horror film, I wanted to give this islamic horror film another depth by adding the clash of the two religions.

"This concept is still unique here, but it is very challenging as I had to be extra careful so as not to touch on religious sentivities," he said in a news report today.

As such, Syafiq only proceeded when his script was given an all-round okay by an ustaz and a priest, whose church in Cameron Highlands was also used as the film set.

Penunggang Agama 2, starring Zul Ariffin, is currently available on Astro First.
