SEOUL: Samsung Electronics Co said Tuesday it will next week start sales of the red Galaxy S8 smartphone, which is expected to compete with newly released Apple Inc’s iPhone X, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported.

The South Korean tech giant said the new Galaxy S8 smartphone will hit the shelves on Nov 28, four days after the official release of the iPhone X in the country. Samsung first started selling the Galaxy S8 in April.

Samsung said it has not yet decided whether the new version of the Galaxy S8 will reach overseas markets.

Local tech giants have been strengthening marketing efforts following the release of Apple’s iPhone 8 and iPhone X smartphones.

The country’s three mobile carriers said last week the iPhone X had sold out only a few minutes after launching preorders. -- Bernama
