KUALA LUMPUR: The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) is considering unveiling an improved version of Malaysia's official attire for the Paris Olympics.

A source told Timesport that OCM is working with sports equipment company Yonex to design new attire exclusively for Malaysian athletes going to the Paris Games.

"OCM is currently sorting this out with Yonex to produce exclusive attire only for athletes.

"A limited number will be produced for an estimated 25 athletes," said the source.

However, other members of the contingent, including coaches, support staff, and officials, will continue to use the much-debated attire.

So far, 22 athletes have qualified for the Paris Olympics.

Unveiled over the weekend, the gold-themed outfits with tiger stripe designs were meant to reflect Malaysia's pursuit of gold medals in Paris.

But fans have panned the designs "ugly," "cheap-looking" and outdated compared with previous designs.

Social media influencers also poked fun at the attire and compared it unfavorably with other contingents' outfits for the Games.

According to the source, Yonex initially recommended a few designs to OCM. An OCM committee picked a design that looked attractive on paper, but it was not the case when the outfits, including tracksuits, polo shirts and T-shirts were produced.
