KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Aquatics (MAS) is puzzled by Pandelela Rinong's claim of an issue that troubled the national diving team at the recent World Aquatics Championships.

MAS honorary secretary Andy Low said the national body was unaware of the issue brought up by Pandelela and will investigate.

"Our technical director and coaches do meet with Pandelela and the team regularly. I myself spoke to Pandelela three or four times in the last few months," said Andy when contacted today.

"During our meetings, we discussed various matters such as the training programme and addressed any requirements or issues.

"I am surprised by Pandelela's claim, as the issue was not brought to our attention earlier."

"We will meet with Pandelela to better understand what she is referring to." The squad are on a short break and will be back to training next week."

The national squad, comprising 13 divers, had a dismal outing at the Doha World Aquatics Championships, which also doubled up as an Olympic qualifier .

No Malaysian diver secured qualification to the Paris Olympics at the event.

Pandelela, upon arrival at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Monday, told Harian Metro that something was bothering the team but did not elaborate.

"Something happened which was out of our control. We tried to control what we could. What happened was unexpected. It would be a long story," said Pandelela.

"It would be better for me to discuss this internally."

Pandelela added she hopes to raise the matter with Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.
