The Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) will be organising three smaller scale tournaments to give their backup players a ranking boost.

The national backup players have not seen any action in over 18 months as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent travel restrictions.

And with that in mind, SRAM have lined up three Professional Squash Association (PSA) Challenger 10 events to ease the players back into action.

The three events will kick off with the SRAM PSA 5 on Sept 28-Oct 1, followed by the SRAM PSA 6 (Oct 27-30) and the SRAM PSA 7 (Nov 10-13).

"Our players really need this as most have not competed in tournaments ever since the Covid-19 situation became a factor," explained SRAM director Major (Rtd) S. Maniam.

"All three tournaments will be held at the National Squash Centre in Bukit Jalil, and the PSA 5 event will be a local affair.

"We have not finalised the details for the PSA 6 and PSA 7 events, but we hope the government will ease up on the quarantine restrictions to encourage the participation of international players.

"The purpose of these tournaments is to boost the rankings of the backup players.

"But it's not just the backups who will benefit as national No 2 Ivan Yuen is also down to compete as he is already back from the United States."

World No 49 Ivan and women's national No 4 Aifa Azman are the men and women's top seeds for the PSA 5 meet.

Other events lined up by SRAM are the Malaysian Open (Oct 26-30), the Asian Team Championships (Nov 23-27) and the men's World Team Championships (Dec 7-12).
