KUALA LUMPUR: Aifa Azman exacted sweet revenge when she defeated eight seed Lee Ka Yi to reach the semi-finals of the New Zealand Open today.

The 21-year-old Malaysian, who lost to the Hong Kong player in the second round of the Malaysia Cup in Seremban last month, needed just 24 minutes to win 11-3, 11-8, 11-6 at Mercury Arena in Tauranga.

The world No. 31 will face European champion Nele Gilis of Belgium for a place in the final tomorrow.

Gilis, who won the Singapore Open last month, defeated England's Lucy Beecroft 9-11, 7-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-8.

National coach Ajaz Azmat was happy with Aifa's performance.

"I hope Aifa will give a good fight to world No. 5 Gilis tomorrow.

"This is the first meeting between the two players, and there is no pressure on Aifa," said Ajaz.
