KUALA LUMPUR: Perak are “all wired up” to be the national electronic sports (e-Sports) hub in Malaysia.

Perak’s state youth development and sports committee chairman Howard Lee said to realise the goal, the state government must convince all stakeholders, including Perak’s state investors.

“It is our ambition to make Perak the e-Sports hub in the country and we are doing everything we can to convince the main players in the ecosystem to choose us,” he said earlier today (Thursday).

“We are serious about this as we do not want it to be a one-off plan that eventually dies off. We want to create a long-term ecosystem,” said Howard during the launch of the e-Sports Professional Industry Conference (EPIC) in Kuala Lumpur earlier today (Thursday).

EPIC will focus on three main aspects — conference, exhibition and competition — on March 2-3 at the Casuarina Convention Centre, Perak.

Howard said panel discussions would take place at the conference on e-Sports grassroots development, health, economy growth as well as the e-Sports ecosystem.

There will also be an exhibition on e-Sports while the Kinta district tournament will provide a platform for e-Sports enthusiasts, mainly youth to showcase their talent.

Sixteen teams will battle it in DOTA 2, PUBG (40), Mobile Legends (32) and 64 individuals for FIFA19 on Playstation.

EPIC is supported by MyGameOn, the official media portal under Media Prima Digital (MPD). MPD will also organise the inaugural XPAX E-Sports Campus Championships at the Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) on March 8-10.
