KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) hopes the Philippines will include field and indoor hockey at next year’s Sea Games.

MHC deputy president Datuk Dr S Shamala said hockey should not be dropped as it is an Olympic event.

Hockey and rugby are among the many sports that have been dropped from the biennial games.

“The hosts should take note that hockey is popular in this region.

“Indonesia will compete in the Asian Games in August while Thailand and Singapore are also quite strong in hockey.

“We hope the Philippines will reconsider all hockey events,” she said.

Shamala added that MHC will submit an appeal in regard to hockey’s inclusion to the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM).

The closing date for appeal is June 13.

At the recent Sea Games Federation meeting in Manila, a total of 30 sports were listed for next year’s edition.
