KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia failed to qualify for the Asia Cup women's indoor hockey final after a 2-1 loss to hosts and defending champions Thailand in Chonburi today.

The Malaysian team's dream of making their debut in the indoor World Cup in Croatia next year is over.

Thailand seized a 2-0 lead by converting two penalty corners through Todkaew Jiratchaya in the seventh minute and skipper Sakulpithak Tikhamporn in the 27th before Malaysia reduced the deficit with a penalty corner goal by Nur Atira

Ismail in the 32nd.

Thailand will face Kazakhstan in the final tomorrow, and only the winners will go to Croatia.

In the other semi-final, Kazakhstan edged Indonesia 2-1 in a penalty shootout after both teams were tied 3-3 in regulation time.
