KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia reached the semi-finals of the women's Indoor Hockey Asia Cup when they defeated Iran 4-2 in a Group A match in Chonburi, Thailand, today.

They completed their group campaign with three wins and one defeat, scoring 42 goals and conceding eight.

On Monday, Rodzhanizam Mat Radzi's side thrashed Vietnam 25-0 and Oman 12-1.

However, they needed to beat Iran after losing 5-1 to Kazakhstan in an earlier match today.

Malaysia will face either defending champions Thailand or Indonesia in the semi-finals tomorrow.

Coach Rodzhanizam said his girls responded brilliantly against Iran following a poor performance against Kazakhstan.

"They showed grit and determination to subdue Iran in the crucial match. We will not prepare for the semi-finals," he said.
