KUALA LUMPUR: Here is one coach who took Malaysia to a World Cup final without asking for a salary.

Wallace Tan guided the Malaysian men's team to the silver in the inaugural Hockey5s World Cup in Muscat, Oman on Wednesday.

Wallace, who started coaching the team three months ago. insisted on doing it for free.

The former national player and national coach did it for the love of the sport.

Wallace's team put up a creditable show against the Netherlands in the final before going down 5-2.

Wallace also guided Malaysia to the gold in the Hockey5s Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires in 2018.

Malaysian Hockey Confederation president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal praised Wallace for his sacrifices.

"Wallace said he doesn't want it (salary) because he wants to give back to the country for helping him as a player and coach previously."
