KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia suffered two defeats on the first day of the Tuanku Zara Women's International Hockey Indoor Tournament at Indera Mulia Stadium in Ipoh today.

Malaysia were edged 3-2 by South Africa in a round robin match in the morning.

Malikah Hamza gave South Africa the lead in the 10th minute off a penalty corner and three minutes later they increased their lead off another penalty corner converted by Garbiella Terblanche.

In the 26th minute, Iren Hussin narrowed the score for Malaysia but a minute later the South Africans scored their third goal through Tegan Fourie.

Malaysia managed to pull one back through Nor Asfarina Isahyifiqa Isahhidun in the 40th minute.

In the evening, Malaysia were outplayed 4-1 by Namibia.

Sunelle Ludwing gave Namibia the lead in the 15th minute before

Azaylee Philander netted a hattrick in the 20th, 30th and 31st.

Malaysia's only goal was scored by Iren Hussin in the 33rd minute.
