KUALA LUMPUR: The national women's indoor team recorded their first win in the Tuanku Zara Cup by overcoming Switzerland 3-1 at Indera Mulia Stadium, Ipoh today.

Malaysia scored through Iren Hussin (15th and 28th minutes) and Nor Asfarina Isahyifiqa Isahhidun (38th).

Trosch Tamara replied for Switzerland in the 39th minute.

In the first match of the day, Malaysia were edged 3-2 by Australia.

Australia scored through Brooke Welsh (ninth), Jamie Zimmerman (20th) and Layla Riley (27th), while Iren netted a brace for Malaysia in the 11th and 23rd minutes.

On Tuesday, Malaysia were outplayed 4-1 by Namibia and beaten 3-2 by South Africa.

Malaysia, who are fifth from six teams in the tournament, must beat New Zealand tomorrow to qualify for the bronze medal playoff.
