KUALA LUMPUR: Though the Malaysian Football League (MFL) has given a 40% discount on the RM100,000 fine on Selangor FC, the Red Giants intend to appeal against it.

Earlier this week, MFL slapped the RM100,000 fine on Selangor for withdrawing from the Charity Shield match against JDT on May 10.

In a statement today, Selangor acknowledged MFL's decision to lessen the sanctions, but said they have not yet submitted their appeal.

"Selangor take note of the MFL Board of Directors' revision concerning our non-participation in the 2024 Charity Shield match. As of now, we have not lodged any appeal with the MFL. The club will proceed to file our appeal based on the revised decision and in accordance with relevant regulations," Selangor FC stated.

Earlier today, MFL lessened the penalties initially imposed, including a three-point deduction and a closed-door home match against JDT after the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, made known his feelings on the issue.

The fine was reduced to RM60,000 from RM100,000.

However, discussions are ongoing regarding compensation payments to cover losses incurred by JDT and MFL.

Selangor have been given a three-day window, effective today, to formally submit their appeal.
