KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor have confirmed they will file an appeal and explore all other avenues following the heavy penalties imposed by the Malaysian Football League (MFL) on Tuesday.

The MFL board of directors not only imposed a RM100,000 fine, but also docked three points and ordered Selangor to compensate Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) and MFL for withdrawing from the Charity Shield-cum-Super League match on May 10.

Additionally, MFL mandated that Selangor must host the Super League match against JDT behind closed doors in November.

"The club takes note of the decision made by the MFL regarding Selangor's non-participation in the Charity Shield match. The club had requested the match be postponed following the heinous attack on Faisal Halim on May 5, along with multiple incidents involving other professional football players.

"However, the club's request was rejected. The club will appeal the decision and explore all available avenues," read Selangor's statement.

Selangor decided not to play in the Charity Shield, citing "a series of criminal incidents and recent threats" on May 8 after their appeal to the MFL to postpone the Charity Shield game was not granted.

The incidents included a horrifying acid attack on their player Faisal Halim on May 5.

Faisal suffered third-degree burns following the attack and is now recuperating after undergoing four surgeries.

On May 9, MFL awarded JDT a 'walkover' victory with a 3-0 scoreline following Selangor's withdrawal, granting them the initial three points in the Super League.
