KUALA LUMPUR: FA of Malaysia (FAM) president Datuk Hamidin Amin said today he has requested for an audience with Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, at the Selangor Palace.
This comes after Hamidin found himself embroiled in a storm rocking Malaysian football following the punishment meted out to Selangor FC by the Malaysian Football League (MFL) for withdrawing from the Charity Shield.
"I'm informed of his (Sultan Sharafuddin's) extreme disappointment and sadness over the matter (MFL's drastic action) and I have called the palace yesterday (Wednesday).
"Today (Thursday) I have followed it up with a letter (warkah) to request an audience.
"Hopefully I will try to settle the matter and offer my explanation. I have followed up with a letter and today we're sending it," said Hamidin during the launch of FAM's Women's National League at Lalaport BBC in Kuala Lumpur today.
Sultan Sharafuddin, who is the patron of Selangor FC, yesterday expressed his extreme disappointment and sadness over MFL's drastic action as well as over Hamidin "not voicing his concerns seriously."
Sultan Sharafuddin, who is a former FA of Selangor president, is unhappy with MFL's perceived excessive punishment of Selangor FC for pulling out of the Charity Shield match against Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) on May 10.
The MFL board of directors unanimously decided to fine Selangor RM100,000 (which will be given to a charitable organisation) and dock them three points for not particiting in the Charity Shield.
The Red Giants' match against JDT in November will also be held behind closed doors at the MBPJ Stadium.
