KUALA LUMPUR: The hostility between the FA of Malaysia (FAM) and FA of Selangor (FAS) has reached boiling point.

And the national body received a slap in the face today with the abrupt resignation of its exco member, Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar, who is also FAS deputy president.

Shahril, who was the chairman of FAM's sponsorship and marketing committee and the national Under-23 team manager, confirmed his resignation.

"I have tendered my resignation from FAM with immediate effect," said the Selangor FC technical committee chairman in a Whatsapp text to the media.

Although he didn't elaborate his reasons for walking out on FAM, it's believed to be due to the Malaysian Football League's (MFL) heavy-handed action in punishing Selangor for pulling out of the Charity Shield match against Johor Darul Ta'zim on May 10.

Earlier, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah slammed the MFL for their "excessive" punishment of Selangor FC.

Sultan Sharafuddin had also said that he would have withdrawn record 33-time Malaysia Cup winners Selangor from the M-League if he were still involved with football administration.

The MFL yesterday fined Selangor RM100,000 and docked them three league points for pulling out of the Charity Shield match. Selangor will also have to play their home match against JDT in November behind closed doors. Additionally, Selangor have to compensate JDT and the MFL for losses incurred due to their withdrawal.
