Four national players advanced to the men’s singles semi-finals of the Malaysia International Series at the Perak Badminton Arena in Ipoh yesterday.

Led by top seed Soong Joo Ven who crushed Indonesian defending champion Gatjra Piliang Cupu 21-12, 21-7, it was a cruise for the Malaysians in the quarter-finals yesterday.

Joo Ven will meet teammate Lim Chong King in the semi-finals after Chong King upset third-seed Sheng Xiaodong 22-20, 21-16 from Canada.

Cheam June Wei, seeded second, reached the last four when he beat Indonesian Yonathan Ramlie 24-22, 21-9.

June Wei will play teammate Tan Jia Wei, who ousted national player Lim Chi Wing 21-14, 21-12.

In the women’s singles, S. Kisona marched into the semifinals when she beat Jaslyn Hooi Yue Yann from Singapore 12-21, 21-13, 21-16.

The defending champion will play Indonesian Sri Fatmawati for a shot at the final. Fatmawati had beaten second seed Malaysian Ho Yen Mei 21-17, 21-18.

Another national player, Eoon Qi Xuan also made the last four when she beat Grace Chua from Singapore 21-14, 16-21, 21-9.
