KUALA LUMPUR: BA of Malaysia (BAM) president Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria has revealed that former World No 1 shuttler Lee Chong Wei is looking better since returning to Malaysia from Taiwan where he was undergoing treatment at a private hospital there last Sunday.
Norza visited Chong Wei, who was recently diagnosed with early stage of nose cancer, at his home earlier today (Thursday) and admitted he felt relieved to see improvement in Chong Wei’s condition.
"I had breakfast with Chong Wei at his house this morning and he looks like he has lost some weight, maybe four to five kilogrammes," said Norza.
"But what is important is that his condition is improving and he looks happy being back with his family."
Norza, however, said Chong Wei will not be holding a press conference any time soon.
"The doctor has advised him to rest for at least another two or three weeks before he is able to be out and about in public. This is because his immune system is still weak. We should give him the space and privacy to make a full recovery."
Norza added that he did not discuss with Chong Wei regarding his future in the sport during the visit.
"I had no intent on discussing his playing career during the visit, I just wanted to see how he was doing. I am happy to see his improved condition now compared to when he was undergoing treatment."
Norza, however, said Chong Wei continues to follow the progress of the national team and gave his views on the recent performances of his teammates.
