KUALA LUMPUR: PKR Youth has called upon the party's leadership to exercise caution in accepting new members to avoid a repeat of past betrayals within the party.

Its information chief Haziq Azfar Ishak stressed that PKR, as one of the main parties in the unity government, needs to maintain internal stability to carry out the people's desired reform agenda in governance.

"Media reports from various agencies yesterday indicating the desire of certain groups to join PKR should serve as a warning for party leaders to be more cautious in accepting new memberships.

"PKR must maintain internal stability to ensure the administration of the federal government is not plagued by internal party issues that could divert the real focus," he said in a statement today.

Hence, he stressed the significance of carefully considering all possibilities that could disrupt internal party stability, especially in accepting new memberships resulting from mass exodus from other parties.

Yesterday, former Bersatu supreme council member Dr Muhammad Faiz Na'aman said he believes more Bersatu leaders and pioneer members at all levels will be joining PKR.

Faiz, who confirmed his entry into PKR on Monday, hinted that this could become more evident as Bersatu party elections, expected to take place later this year, draws near.

In light of these developments, Haziq said PKR must continue demonstrating good leadership examples for other political parties and show genuine commitment in the political arena.

"PKR should not allow any room for incidents of betrayal against the party, as witnessed in 2020, from recurring," he added.
