KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) candidate contesting in the Kepala Batas parliamentary constituency, Danial Abdul Majeed, has debts of more than RM100,000.

The 26-year-old engineer, who is contesting under the Pakatan Harapan banner, said among the debts he was bearing were a National Higher Education Fund Corporation loan of RM23,000, a car loan with a balance of RM24,694, RM5,500 for a motorcycle and two personal loans to finance his wedding, which he still needs to pay RM37,000.

Danial said he owned a Perodua Axia and Yamaha Y-15, which have a combined value of RM53,300.

"In the three bank accounts that belong to me, I have savings of only RM3,125.31, and as of Sept 30 my Employees' Provident Fund account stands at RM6,501.

"My total liabilities at present is RM102,146, making my nett assets a deficit of RM39,218.99," he said when declaring his assets earlier today (Nov 17).

He said he amassed his assets before becoming active in politics in 2017.

Danial, who is contesting under a Pakatan Harapan ticket, is among the candidates eyeing the Kepala Batas seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).

He is calling upon the other candidates for a debate at Muda's operation room in Bertam at 3pm tomorrow.

"I understand that the candidates may have packed schedules. I am open and ready to go anywhere at any time for a debate because the people here want to get to know their candidates."
