KUCHING: DAP, PKR and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) will be using their respective party logos in the 12th Sarawak election.

Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said a meeting was held today with the leaders from the three parties, and they have agreed that they will be using their own party logos instead of a common logo.

He said DAP will be contesting in 26 seats, PKR in 47 seats, and Amanah in nine seats, something which had already been agreed upon in January.

The meeting, said Chong, also discussed the various strategies for the state polls since it is expected there would be a lot of restrictions during the 12-day campaign period.

"Although it is an unfair election, we are ready to put up a good fight against the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition. We hope the people will reject GPS as they have supported Umno and Pas at the federal level.

"Besides, the people should realise that the state still lacks development under the leadership of GPS, which is also the former Barisan Nasional," he said at a press conference at the DAP headquarters here today.

When asked if he will defend his Kota Sentosa seat, Chong refused to comment further.

"We will decide again when the time comes," he added.

In the 14th general election, Sarawak DAP kept its logo to maximise its winning chances despite four parties in the opposition pact (in the Peninsular) using a common logo, which was the PKR logo.

The 12th Sarawak election will be held on Dec 18, with nomination on Dec 6 and early voting on Dec 14.

The Sarawak election could not be held after the tenure of the State Legislative Assembly ended on June 6 this year because of the nationwide state of emergency which was in force at the time.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah had proclaimed a state of emergency to curb the spread of Covid-19.

When the nationwide emergency ended on Aug 1, the King proclaimed a state of emergency for Sarawak from Aug 2 to Feb 2, 2022.

The emergency was lifted on Nov 3, thus enabling the EC to hold the Sarawak state election within 60 days.
