KUALA LUMPUR: A news portal has issued an apology to the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, for publishing a report which misquoted His Majesty.

Harapan Daily, in a statement published on its website today, said the portal had retracted and removed the story from its system.

"We take note of Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah's reminder regarding the news we published.

"With this, we hereby apologise for the mistake, retract the news titled 'Sultan Pahang beri amaran terhadap amalan bawaan Pas' (Pahang Sultan warns against the practice of Pas), and removed it from our system," the statement read.

Earlier, it was reported that the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, expressed his disappointment over the report published by the news portal on Friday.

Comptroller Major General Datuk Mohamed Zahari Datuk Yahya said His Highness said the report was defamatory and could have negative implications that could lead to an atmosphere of disharmony in the community.

He reminded all media practitioners, whether print media or electronic media, to check and peruse each piece of news before making interpretations that could deviate or stray from the true meaning.
