KUALA KANGSAR: Five assemblymen took their oaths of office as Perak state executive council members before Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah at the Istana Iskandariah, here, today.

They were Sungai Manik assemblyman Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharuddin from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu); and four Umno members; Lintang assemblyman Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun; Rungkup assemblyman Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya; Kampung Gajah assemblyman Datuk Dr Wan Noorashikin Wan Noordin; and Bota assemblyman Khairul Shahril Mohamed.

Earlier, Kota Tampan assemblyman Datuk Saarani Mohamad, who is Perak Umno chief, was sworn in as the state's 14th Menteri Besar.

He took his oath of office before the Sultan at 11.20am.

At a press conference later, Saarani said the appointment of the state exco must be done immediately to enable the state's 2021 budget to be tabled and approved.

The state assembly sitting will be held on Dec 16 at 2.30pm. Initially, the sitting was to be held between Dec 4 until Dec 11.

However, it was adjourned last Friday after Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu was ousted as the Perak Menteri Besar after losing a vote of confidence during the state legislative assembly sitting.

The Chenderiang assemblyman received only 10 votes in his favour with 48 voting against him and one abstaining.

A day later, Ahmad Faizal, who is also Bersatu deputy president, submitted his letter of resignation to the Sultan. He also announced that the state excos had all stepped down from their respective positions.
